Going on hiatus

Greetings all!
As you've probably noticed, things have slowed down a lot for Singerreise in the last couple months. I've not managed to put an official Episode together for nearly two months.

There's a number of reasons for this, though none of the reasons are particularly good ones. There's the frustrations with facebook and YouTube, and their ever-changing policies, which have never been in my favor. I put a lot of time into producing quality content, and as soon as I feel like I have a mechanism for delivering that content, that ability is taken away.

The content itself is getting harder and harder to produce, and I don't have a sense that it is as valuable to people as I had initially believed it would be.

While I can usually get a few people to watch a video, I'm getting almost no engagement from them. There's no one saying to their friends, "Hey, look at this video!" No one is asking questions or leaving comments.

There are ways that I can keep pushing to keep it going. There's still a wide variety of topics that I could be talking about: pedagogy was next on my list. I had also hoped to revamp the website and put some materials on there for sale. I wanted to try an audio podcast.

I wanted to finish Winterreise, and then dig into other material, like the Four Serious Songs by Brahms, Nicola Vaccai's Practical Method of Italian Singing, Vaughan William's Songs of Travel, more spirituals, more opera arias, etc.

I wanted to do more reviews of local opera and choral productions, to encourage people to get out and see them. I wanted to do more interviews.

I could put together an email list. I could be more active on social media. I could attend conferences, print up more business cards, pitch Singerreise to choirs and voice studios, and sell sell sell.

But every building step I take means another thing that I need to spend time on to maintain.

My hope for Singerreise to become a viable source of income has never materialized. The work needed to get to that point keeps escalating. That goal is getting pushed farther and farther away.

Mostly, I get the feeling that I'm trying to fight a battle that I lack the will to win.

So for the time being, Singerreise is going on hiatus. I'm not going to get rid of it entirely. I may wind up putting together videos "when I feel like it," as one might do for a "hobby." It'd be purely for my own satisfaction, and without any of the stress of calling it a "job."

I do, however, want to make sure that patrons are not getting charged while I figure out what, if anything, will be my next move. To make that happen, I have changed the pricing to a "per creation" model. If you would like to still put a $ amount on how much you value Singerreise, you are welcome to head to patreon.com/singerreise and set any amount that you'd be willing to pay per "episode".

For the next few weeks, though, I will not be posting anything that would charge patrons. This will give my current patrons some time to withdraw or change their pledges. Right now, the only "official" amount is $1 per video. It's more of a placeholder than anything else.

To find out more about how the "per creation model" (including how to set a "per month" maximum), check out this link: https://patreon.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002984506-How-do-I-set-a-monthly-max-to-my-pledge-

Thanks again for all of your support these many months. Getting as far as I did would have been impossible without you.
